Job Summary

This is a Medical-Surgical/Oncology travel nursing opportunity for experienced RNs. The unit primarily serves medical-surgical patients with oncology history, with a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6. First-time travelers are accepted, and local candidates are also accepted.

Key Responsibilities
  • Care for a primarily medical-surgical patient population with oncology history
  • Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection as needed
  • Manage and care for patients with diagnoses including AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
  • Perform colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, and PICC line management
  • Manage heparin and insulin drips, surgical drains, and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Provide nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
  • Maintain isolation precautions and perform wound care/wound vac management
  • Utilize unit systems including PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR
  • Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location
  • Fulfill call requirement: call required if called off on a prescheduled shift; shifts called out will need to have make-up shifts rescheduled
  • Work every other weekend as required
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Be preassigned to units as needed, including potential consolidation to a centralized office mid-contract
  • Be assigned equally to home unit staff to ensure patients are covered with a registered nurse

Work Environment /

Physical Requirements
  • Night shift (3x12), 18:45–07:15
  • Every other weekend required
  • Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift; make-up shifts required for called-out shifts
  • Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED, or any alternate medical patient care location
  • Daily census: 42; during times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Scrubs:
    Navy Blue and White
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
  • COVID-19:
    Not required
  • Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
Important Notes
  • RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
