This is a Medical Surgical/Oncology travel nursing contract role serving primarily Medical Surgical patients with Oncology history. The manager is seeking Med/Surg skilled RNs for this MS/Onc unit. Contract staff will be assigned equally to the home unit staff to ensure that patients are covered with a registered nurse.
Key Responsibilities- Care for a patient population with general medical-surgical diagnoses, including AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
- Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection as assigned
- Maintain target patient ratios of 1:6; during times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED, or any alternate medical patient care location
- Work every other weekend as required
- Meet call requirements: call is required if called off on a prescheduled shift; shifts called out will need to have make-up shifts rescheduled
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
- Be subject to consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract and may be preassigned to units as needed
- Utilize unit systems including PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR for medication administration, documentation, and communication
- Complete unit orientation of 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Experience in an inpatient setting is required
- Med/Surg clinical skills
- Colostomy care
- Accessing Ports
- Blood Product Administration
- Central line blood draw
- Peripheral Line Care/Management
- PICC line management
- Heparin administration
- Insulin administration
- Surgical drains
- Chest tubes — Emerson/Pleur-evac
- Nasal Cannula
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
- Ability to administer chemotherapy if needed
- BLS certification
- CPI
- Charge nurse experience
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
- Oncology certification preferred
- Current RN License required
- BLS certification required
- Oncology certification preferred
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Experience in an inpatient setting required
- First-time travelers accepted
Physical Requirements
- Daily Census: 42
- Patient Diagnoses:
General medical-surgical diagnosis primary patient population; administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection) - Scrubs:
Navy Blue and White - Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location
- Every other weekend required
- Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
- Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster (Storm Team/Hurricane Team)
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
- Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
- Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster.
- Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.
