Responsibilities
  • Provide care for medical-surgical patients, including oncology history, on a unit with a targeted nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6.
  • Float to similar units as needed; participate in storm teams during catastrophic events if assigned.
  • Adhere to attendance expectations: call is required for prescheduled shifts if called off; every other weekend is required.
  • Manage daily census and ensure coverage alongside home unit staff.
  • Administer medications and manage patient care with proper documentation and communication systems.
  • Perform specialized procedures and care as needed, including catheter and IV administration, wound care, wound vac, and isolation precautions.
  • Provide chemotherapy administration (IV, PO, or injection) under approved protocols.
  • Support patients with diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, cancer, and septic shock.
Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Minimum 2 years in an inpatient setting (Medical-Surgical background preferred).
  • Licenses/Certifications:

    Active nursing license (RN); BLS required; ACLS preferred or as required by site.
  • Additional credentials:
    Oncology certification preferred;
    Pharmacology knowledge;
    Skills Checklist;
    Specialty Exam.
  • Clinical skills:
    Central line and peripheral line care/management; port access; blood product administration; heparin and insulin administration; chest tube care; non-invasive airway management; isolation precautions; wound care and wound Vac; port-a-centers such as PICC line management; colostomy care; documentation and communication proficiency.
