Temporary Faculty- CHHS/SON Clinical | Academic Year . This is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.
Prior to the official appointment to the university, the candidate(s) selected for hire must be able to demonstrate eligibility to teach assigned courses by successfully meeting the credentialing requirements based on official transcripts and other documentation as required.

- The School of Nursing seeks temporary/part time faculty for clinical teaching in the prelicensure nursing program to create a pool for advance and short-notice teaching assignments based on program demand for the 2026–2027 Academic Year.
- Courses may include:
Foundations;
Adult Health;
Maternal-Infant;
Community;
Mental Health;
Capstone (senior clinical preceptor experience). - Assignments may span multiple semesters within Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027.
- Undergraduate course teaching: Master’s degree with 9 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline from an accredited institution.
- Graduate course teaching: Terminal doctoral degree in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
- Equivalent verifiable professional experience, certifications, and licensures in the discipline may also be considered.
- Prelicensure or graduate teaching experience preferred
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) faculty must have an active North Carolina NP license and board certification
- Prelicensure nursing faculty must have a North Carolina RN license
The School of Nursing (SON) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern North Carolina through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in developing healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact.
The SON is a National League of Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, specifically in promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility with offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education, supporting cognitive, affective, physical, and social development and inter-professional collaborative experiences across degree programs in the College.

- BSN to DNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gero Nurse Practitioner)
- MSN to DNP (Nurse Executive Leadership and Post- APRN concentrations)
- Post DNP Psych Mental Health Certificate (beginning Fall 2026)

- Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research Operations - MS in Clinical Research and Product Development
Over 2,400 students are enrolled in programs within the SON. The SON has over 80 full-time faculty and employs over 60 part-time faculty per semester.
