Med Surg RN for Med Surg Oncology clinic

*** This unit cares for patients receiving chemotherapy and is seeking travelers who are either chemotherapy certified or willing to obtain certification. Certification can be obtained prior to starting the assignment or may be completed either before the start date or while on assignment. Please connect with your traveler to confirm they are committed to obtaining the ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification.

* REQUIRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP:
2 years of experience required
1st time traveler accepted
Locals accepted at a local rate
BLS required
ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration preferred
* Travelers must be willing to obtain this certification prior to or during their assignment. The facility will provide onsite training
* Skills:

Experience in an inpatient setting is required, Med/Surg, Colostomy care, Accessing Ports, Blood Product Administration, Central line blood draw, Peripheral Line Care/Management, PICC line management, Heparin, Insulin, Surgical drains, Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management, Isolation Precautions, Wound Care/Wound Vac

PREFERRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP: CPI. Charge nurse experience, OCN

JOB DETAILS :
This unit cares for and monitors patients who have received chemotherapy. The team is looking for travelers who are already chemotherapy certified or are willing to obtain the required certification.
Target Ratios: 1:6

Shift: 3x12 nights
13-26 week contracts accepted
Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
Every other weekend required
Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED, or any alternate medical patient care location.

** Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid contract may occur and the contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed

PATIENT DIAGNOSES:
General medical-surgical diagnosis primary patient population. Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy
-IV, PO, or injection.

AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, Heparin drips,

SPECIAL PROCEDURES / UNIT DETAILS:
Daily Census 42.
During times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher.
Contract staff will be assigned equally to the home unit staff to ensure that patients are covered with a registered nurse
Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team
Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
Contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
Like units includes floating to inpatient holding in the ED, or any alternate medical patient care location.
Shifts called out will need to have make up shifts rescheduled.
Attendance to monthly staff meetings.

UNIT SYSTEMS (Medication, Documentation, Communication): PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.

UNIT ORIENTATION: 24 hrs (2 shifts)

SCRUBS:
Navy Blue and white.
