Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift hospital position requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details
  • Medical Surgical unit with Rapid Response Team availability
  • Patient population includes dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture cases
  • Unit has a designated isolation area for COVID patients
  • Target patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts (18:45-7:15)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
  • Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication management, and SBAR for communication
  • Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
Requirements
  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required (hardstop)
  • Experience with telemetry (remote and on-unit monitoring), interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and IV insulin protocols
  • Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and peripheral line care
  • Experience with blood product administration and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Respiratory care skills including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway management
  • Wound care and wound vac experience required
  • Colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care and management experience
  • Isolation precautions and PPE competency required
  • Experience with Heparin and PCA medication administration
  • Preferred: accessing/managing ports, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care, CVA experience, surgical drains, and Epic charting experience
  • Must be able to pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required at start (pending acceptable at submission)
  • Current State Board of Nursing license verification and NURSYS verification required
Additional Information
  • Provide medical-surgical nursing care including monitoring, medication administration, and coordination with the Rapid Response Team
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours, with hospital orientation occurring during the first week and daily class attendance required
  • Scrub color requirement:
    Navy/White
  • Must complete pre-start and annual online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure of hospital name and employment dates required at submission along with facility approval
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility are not eligible to hold both a travel contract and per diem status simultaneously
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units, have their own transportation, and can accommodate different schedules
  • No block schedules unless a weekend block (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
