Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Rapid Response unit requiring 2 years' recent experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

• Active NC or compact RN license (pending OK for submission)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required within the last 5 years
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Epic documentation experience required
• Skills required:
  
  heparin drips, PCA, colostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, dysrhythmia management, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE, TBI and ortho trauma care, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, and wound care
• Preferred skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, pre/post hemodialysis management, drip management, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery care, and spinal cord injury care
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

• Medical Surgical unit specializing in rapid response and trauma care
• Patient population includes severe orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, and neurological trauma
• Target patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:45-7:15)
• Accepts 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding
• Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication systems
• Provide care for patients with severe orthopedic, neurological, and trauma-related conditions
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
• Contract staff may be reassigned to units through centralized office consolidation during the assignment
• 12-hour unit orientation and 16-hour organizational education required
• Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
• Navy scrubs required
• RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
