American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for an Ortho Trauma/General Surgery unit requiring 2 years of relevant experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Details- Medical Surgical unit specializing in Ortho Trauma/General Surgery
- Patient population includes severe bone, joint, and soft tissue injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, neurological trauma/nerve damage, and subdural hematomas
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
- 36 or 48 hour contracts accepted, 13-26 week contract lengths considered
- Patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding areas
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR charting systems
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
- Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
- BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Ortho/Neuro/Trauma experience required
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience with 1:5-6 patient ratios required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral line care
- Respiratory skills including chest tube management, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care
- Neurological/psychiatric skills including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care preferred
- Medication administration experience with Heparin and PCA
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management skills
- Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge
- Pre/post hemodialysis management and surgical drain care preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Provide direct patient care for orthopedic, trauma, and general surgery patients with complex neurological and musculoskeletal conditions
- 12 hour unit orientation plus 16 hour organizational education required
- Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed before start and annually
- Scrub colors limited to navy or white
- First-time travelers are accepted for this role
- Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and must disclose prior employment details for facility approval
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
- Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
