Postdoctoral Scholar – College of Science and Engineering (UNC Wilmington)

Primary responsibility is to conduct research in one or more of the following Science departments:

• Biology and Marine Biology
• Chemistry and Biochemistry
• Earth and Ocean Sciences
• Physics and Physical Oceanography
• Computer Science
• Mathematics and Statistics

Key responsibilities include:

• Conduct research and may provide oversight of research projects and personnel, project management, and assistance in development and writing of proposals and manuscripts.
• Acquire data and perform higher‑level interpretation of computational results and comprehensive data analysis.
• Carry out activities in field and laboratory settings.
• Interact with academic departments and other units as needed for project management.
• Have a primary faculty mentor and develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) in coordination with the mentor.
• Participate in professional development programming offered through the University.

Postdoctoral appointments are term‑limited, typically 12‑month full‑time assignments for a 1–2 year term, not to exceed a total of five years.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in one of the listed science fields, conferred before the appointment start date but no more than five (5) years prior to the appointment start date. Exceptions to the five‑year post‑degree limit may be waived in certain circumstances.
