Archaeologist II – Wilmington, NC.
Job DescriptionAECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Project Archaeologist / Field Director. The Project Archaeologist will provide support to cultural resource projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, greater US, and potentially international work, as available.
Responsibilities- Serve as a Field Director and direct field crews under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, scheduling work and making individual or team assignments.
- Assist in scoping archaeological projects and utilize GIS, site records, and other data sources to identify potential site locations.
- Keep records and maintain State Historic Preservation Officer documentation pertaining to cultural resources.
- Provide regulatory compliance support for Federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients.
- Support all phases of archaeological investigation.
- Collect information, observe, interview, and review documents to make judgments.
- Write archaeological reports, prepare site forms, and assist the Principal Investigator with decisions about project alternatives, NRHP evaluations, and effects on historic properties.
- Work with technical field, laboratory, and office staff, managers, and administrative staff to ensure projects meet AECOM quality standards.
- Perform manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt.
- Perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. in a variety of weather conditions.
- Completion of a university-based archaeological field school.
- BA/BS with 2 years of experience and or demonstrated equivalency.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience (e.g., Crew Chief).
- GIS Experience.
- Meets the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
- MA, MS, or PhD in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Total Station, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, and Statistical Analysis (e.g., SAS or SPSS).
- Demonstrated experience writing technical reports and papers.
- Relocation is not available for this position.

Estimated range: $57,000.00 – $70,000.00, or $60,000 – $85,000 annually based on location and qualifications.
LocationHybrid – Wilmington, NC.
