Security Guard – Non‑Sworn
This temporary non‑sworn security guard position is responsible for patrolling UNCW main campus and other properties, ensuring safety for faculty, staff, students, and guests. Duties include conducting foot patrols, locking/unlocking facilities, identifying security risks, responding to calls for service and fire alarms, assisting police, assisting motorists and pedestrians, enforcing parking violations, assisting with special events, training new guards, directing traffic, providing escort services, and performing crime prevention programming.
Responsibilities- Conduct foot patrols of assigned buildings and grounds.
- Lock/unlock facilities as scheduled.
- Identify and report security risks.
- Respond to service calls, fire alarms, and assistance requests.
- Assist police officers, motorists, pedestrians, and guests.
- Enforce parking regulations and other campus policies.
- Assist in training new security guards.
- Direct traffic during congested periods or special events.
- Provide escort services to faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
- Implement crime prevention programs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license with no major violations in the past three years.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to handle emergency situations.
- Initial two‑week training required.
- Possible shifts: 3 pm‑11 pm, 3 pm‑9 pm, 5 pm‑11 pm, 11 pm‑7 am.
- As needed: 7 pm‑7 am, 7 am‑7 pm.
- Hours:
up to 40 per week, 7 days a week. - Pay: $15.00–$16.00 per hour.
- Main Campus and Center for Marine Science.
