Facility Maint Tech-Mech Trade (HVAC Technician)
SummaryThe HVAC Technician position is required to repair, maintain and service heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and building control systems across campus. This role supports the university’s physical plant by ensuring that all HVAC systems operate safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities- Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair all building control systems.
- Conceive, design and implement minor system modifications and occasional installation of new systems.
- Inspect and test HVAC systems and components to ensure they function correctly and safely.
- Maintain records of work performed, including repairs, maintenance and installations.
High‑school diploma or equivalency; or demonstration of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience- Working knowledge of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, pneumatic and electric controls.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems, particularly Direct Digital Control.
- Ability to operate PC‑based software to check building and equipment functions, identify trends and generate user programs.
- Graduation from an HVAC and/or Refrigeration trade school.
- A valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- CFC Universal Certificate – Types 1, 2 & 3 for refrigerant and recovery systems.
