The Railroad Track Worker is responsible for the construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair of railroad tracks and related infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient train operations. This position works outdoors in all weather conditions and follows standard safety practices and protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect tracks, ties, switches, and ballast for damage, wear, or defects
- Perform construction and maintenance activities including laying rails, replacing ties, and leveling and aligning railroad tracks
- Use hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment to complete track repairs and installation
- Follow safety guidelines and regulations as established by the company and governing bodies
- Respond promptly to track emergencies or service disruptions
- Maintain track records and report any incidents or hazards to supervisors
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and safe operations
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
- Problem-solving skills and adaptability
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform strenuous physical tasks
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Prior experience in railroad maintenance or construction
- Familiarity with railroad safety regulations and equipment
- Certifications in operating heavy machinery (such as backhoe, loader, etc.)
- Bilingual skills are a plus
- Outdoor environment; exposed to varying weather conditions
- Work involves physical labor and potential exposure to noisy, hazardous areas
- Travel required within assigned territory or job sites
