Description of Work This position is assigned to Maury Correctional Institution located in Hookerton, NC. Maury CI is a close/medium custody facility which houses approximately 1500 male offenders. Reporting to the HVAC Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for HVAC mechanics within the Correctional facility.

Skills and Abilities

/Management Preferences This position will perform the full range of journey work duties associated with the preventative and routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems at Maury CI. This position maintains the heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, installs new equipment, charge system refrigerants, replaces bearings, seals and filters, lubricates as necessary and adjusts and balances the distribution system. This position maintains electronic/pneumatic equipment, performs all necessary testing, troubleshooting, and alignment repair of electric/pneumatic systems.

Position is expected to identify the cause of the problem, determine materials and tools needed and method of repair and carry out repair procedures independently on most jobs. The HVAC mechanic performs preventative maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans. Employee may train and/or supervise the work of inmate helpers.

Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679

Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart
