Embedded Software Engineer Manager

Software Engineering Manager / Technical Lead (Embedded Systems)

Location: Wilmington, NC (Onsite – 5 days/week)

A growing manufacturing organization on the North Carolina coast is seeking a hands?on Software Engineering Manager to lead a small embedded software team. This role is best suited for someone who still enjoys being deep in the code while also guiding and mentoring engineers.

This is not a heavily administrative management role
. Instead, it functions as a technical lead position with meaningful ownership of architecture, development, and problem?solving, paired with gradual people?leadership responsibilities.

• Act as the technical lead for a tight?knit embedded software team
• Spend the majority of your time writing, debugging, and reviewing code
• Provide technical guidance and support, especially around complex debugging challenges
• Collaborate closely with hardware and cross?functional teams
• Help coordinate work across a mix of full?time and contract engineers
• Participate in some client?facing technical discussions
• Contribute to designs that go from concept to real?world deployment

• Lead a team of ~5 embedded engineers
• Blend of onsite full?time engineers and contractors
• Strong collaboration with in?house hardware teams
• Opportunity to grow into broader people leadership over time (no need to be a seasoned manager on day one)

• Strong foundation in embedded software development
• Experience working in OS?based embedded environments
• Comfortable operating as a technical leader or senior lead engineer
• Background in manufacturing or contract manufacturing environments is a plus
• Roughly 10+ years of relevant experience preferred, but flexibility for the right profile

• Embedded Linux and/or Windows Embedded
• C, C++, and/or Python
• System?level debugging and problem?solving experience

• High impact, hands?on technical work
