Overview
Hiring Range: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications, Leads eligible for $25.00
Primary Purpose of the PositionFayetteville State University (FSU) is hiring shuttle drivers to join our campus. The non‑CDL shuttle driver will be responsible for pick‑up and drop‑off of students, staff, faculty, and other members of the FSU community on a fixed route and on‑demand service. The working hours for the position are approximately 30‑33 hours a week. Occasional evening and/or weekend assignments may be required.
Responsibilities- Operate non‑CDL 14 passenger shuttle vehicles on a scheduled route to designated campus locations, in a safe manner and in full compliance with all FSU traffic regulations and department policies.
- Follow set procedures for checking the vehicle at the beginning and conclusion of each shift to ensure the shuttle is in proper working order and to prepare the vehicle for the next shift. This includes checking the fuel level, cleaning the interior of the shuttle, reporting issues directly to the supervisor, and securing and locking the shuttle.
- Manage passengers in a courteous and respectful manner, including receiving complaints about schedules and quality of service, reporting such complaints to the supervisor, monitoring passengers with special needs, and calling for emergency assistance as needed.
- Oversee the loading/unloading of passengers.
- Notify the supervisor while in transit of any delays on a scheduled route due to traffic, weather, or other conditions/circumstances.
- Able to determine adjustments to route pacing to best meet passenger needs in the event of delays to typical schedule.
- Collect and return lost personal property remaining on the shuttle at the end of the shift.
- Maintain mileage records.
- A valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required.
- Five years of driving experience.
- Must pass a pre‑employment criminal and driving background check.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, safety procedures, vehicle mechanics, route/areas, passenger management, and first aid.
- Prior transit system experience within an educational or similar institution is preferred.
- The mechanical ability associated with the maintenance of vehicles and equipment is preferred.
