The Equipment Hauler & Lowboy Driver is responsible for transporting heavy machinery, construction equipment, and materials safely and efficiently to job sites using lowboy trailers and specialized vehicles. The role requires strict adherence to safety regulations, proper loading and unloading procedures, and compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation laws.
Key Responsibilities- Operate lowboy and heavy equipment hauling trucks for the delivery and retrieval of construction equipment and materials.
- Secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and tarps to ensure safe transportation.
- Inspect vehicles, trailers, and equipment for mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance.
- Plan routes and schedules to ensure timely delivery while complying with all trucking regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of mileage, deliveries, and inspections.
- Follow company and industry safety protocols at all times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, site managers, and other drivers regarding delivery status and scheduling.
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment as needed, using proper techniques and tools.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A with proper endorsements.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience hauling heavy equipment or materials using lowboy trailers.
- Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations.
- Ability to secure and handle oversized loads safely.
- Clean driving record and background check.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects.
- Strong attention to detail and safety procedures.
- Experience transporting specialized or oversized machinery.
- Familiarity with construction environments and equipment types.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic truck and trailer maintenance.
- Certification in OSHA safety standards.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safe and precise driving skills.
- Load securing and balancing techniques.
- Route planning and time management.
- Problem-solving abilities for unforeseen challenges.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Stress management and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
- Frequent travel to job sites, construction locations, and various destinations.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Physical demands including lifting and maneuvering heavy materials.
- Irregular hours, including nights and weekends as required.
