MORTGAGE LOAN CONSULTANT Position Summary
Performs a wide range of duties related to the origination of residential first mortgage loans for outside referrals, from application through closing. Responsible for managing risk, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and delivering a positive customer experience.
Responsibilities- Develop internal and external referral contacts (realtors, builders, professionals, COIs, and personal).
- Learn and master all aspects of the mortgage loan originator position, including agency and portfolio guidelines, processing, underwriting, closing, and pricing procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of company policies, available loan products, and underwriting guidelines; complete all required training.
- Follow defined protocols for escalation of underwriting and pricing exceptions.
- Collect applications and documentation, completing URLA on laptop, and use technology for rate information, credit reports, and origination of loan files.
- Deliver loan packages within management‑set time frames.
- Manage the pipeline for all originated loans through closing, communicating with branches and applicants as needed.
- Maintain high levels of customer service while managing expectations.
- Attend and participate in all sales meetings, calls, and training as required.
- Collect application fees per policy.
- Participate in referrals to other lines of business as part of the One Bank initiative.
- High school diploma or equivalent mandatory; four‑year college degree preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and customer service orientation.
- Ability to maintain optimism and focus on goals under adversity.
- Proven computer skills.
- Basic sales technique skills.
- Strong desire to excel in a competitive environment.
- Required S.A.F.E. Act registration through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) at the time of employment.
Compensation for this position is largely incentive‑based. Incentive compensation is combined with either a base salary or a draw to determine total cash compensation. Additional details can be provided upon request.
