The hiring range for this position is $47,400.71 (minimum salary) to $65,277.98 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications.

The purpose of this position is to provide creative and printing services for the City of Wilson. This position performs digital printing and assists with the design of city marketing and communication materials.

Major Duties
  • Operate and maintain four-color and black only Print-on-Demand, bindery and finishing equipment.
  • Perform paste-up, cutting, binding, padding, perforating, numbering and lamination as required.
  • Stock and maintain Print-on-Demand, bindery and finishing equipment inventory.
  • Organize and backup project files.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problematic digital files.
  • Preflight graphic design files for output to film.
  • Advise clients on how to properly prepare digital files for print production.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and package deliveries as required.
Guidelines
  • Guidelines include department standard operating procedures, equipment operating manuals and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in desktop publishing and print production operation, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to desktop publishing and print production, usually associated with having had a similar position for one to three years.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of graphic design and print production.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing and digital printing applications and interfaces:
    Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Poster Artist, FIERY, RIPs, MAC OS and Windows.
  • Knowledge of the functions of black and four-color Print-on-Demand equipment.
  • Knowledge of the following file format uses: .psd, .eps, .tiff, .jpeg, .ps and .pdf.
  • Skill in reading and performing mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in manipulating digital files electronically.
  • The work is typically performed in a stockroom or warehouse, while intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping.
  • The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts and irritating chemicals.
  • The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and must distinguish between shades of color and registration.
