Under the direction of the Dean of Health Sciences, the nursing instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, clinical supervision, and student support within the program. This role includes planning and delivering classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences that promote student success and ensure the development of safe, competent, entry-level nursing professionals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Develops course syllabi, outlines, and classroom activities for assigned courses.
* Reviews and develops instructional materials for assigned courses.
* Administers tests or other evaluation methods to students; grades and gives feedback on exercises, homework assignments, and tests.
* Monitors, records, and submits student attendance, progress, and grades for assigned courses.
* Serves as an academic advisor for assigned students. Monitors and ensures that students take appropriate courses in the appropriate sequence.
* Assists with registration processes.
* Contributes to curriculum development by developing and evaluating course content and student learning outcomes.
* Maintains contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations to keep instructional programs current with occupational or academic field.
* Participates in program review process.
* Develops, implements, evaluates, and reports annual program goals/outcomes (PLOs).
* Completes a minimum of 8 hours of professional development annually that aligns with annual instructional goals of the College or individual goals as recommended by the dean.
* Completes a minimum of 8 hours of college service activities annually to include recruitment activities, college event participation, SGA events, club advising, institutional and ad hoc committees, etc.
* Communicates clearly and frequently in writing and speaking to ensure consistency of purpose and vision.
* Works collaboratively with all members of the college community.
* Understands and supports the college mission, vision, and values.
* Remains current on emerging higher education and division-relevant issues.
* Fosters a work environment characterized by transparency, trust, and professionalism.
* Retains a focus on the student experience, specifically, ensuring instructional rigor, fostering students' sense of belonging, and developing their soft skills.
* Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in nursing practice and education
* Serves on institutional committees if appointed.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of
Principles and practices of PC's and related software.
Assigned course content, resources in the assigned field, and methods of teaching assigned courses.
Adult education theories and practices.
Program area assigned.
Needs assessments and evaluation of courses and activities.
Organizational, planning, and administrative skills to coordinate a variety of courses, workshops, and activities for organizations and students.
Ability to
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Operate a PC and related software.
Communicate and explain courses offered in program areas assigned.
Understand and coordinate training efforts with a wide range of organizations and special populations. Coordinate a variety of courses and activities simultaneously.
Plan and organize a variety of courses and activities.
Enforce and follow rules and regulations of the College.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community organizations, public agencies, businesses, and the general public.
