** Description of Work
** This posting will fill multiple positions in the eastern divisions of North Carolina. Territories include divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8. You will be asked to select your locations of interest when completing your application. Primary office locations include the following areas:  Division 1 – Ahoskie, NC   Division 2 – Greenville, NC   Division 3 – Castle Hayne, NC   Division 4 - Wilson, NC   Division 5 – Durham, NC   Division 6 – Fayetteville, NC   Division 8 – Pinehurst, NC    These positions are responsible for acquiring rights of way for highway construction, negotiating and concluding transactions for the right of way required by the Department for primary highway construction by contacting property owners of right of way to be acquired;

acquiring rights of way on secondary roads; making monetary offers based on appraisal and damages; collaborating with the Property Management Unit and providing local assistance in the clearance of right of way through the sale and disposal of structures and buildings acquired with the right of way; collaborating with Utility Unit personnel in the relocation and adjustment of utilities on primary and secondary roads;

assisting and collaborating with the Attorney General's office in the litigation and mediation of condemnation cases.
Applicant must be able to deal with the public on a daily basis and be able to advise owners of their rights and how they will be affected by the project; must be able to interpret highway right of way and construction plans, including cross-sections, typical sections of profiles and prepare legal instruments of conveyance describing areas of right of way to be acquired.

Must be able to interpret and convey to the public the requirements of federal, state and local laws and regulations concerning the acquisition of highway right of way as well as be able to interpret and convey the requirements of federal and state regulations regarding the Uniform Relocation Act.

** Management prefers applicants with the following:
*** Experience composing written communication effectively with different audiences.
* Experience managing multiple priorities within specified time requirements.
* Experience performing work-related tasks/duties independently or with limited supervision.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
* Experience reading and interpreting design documents, legal documents, business documents or construction plans.

Additional Expectations:
Night and weekend work may be required. The selected candidate must become a Notary Public from the North Carolina Secretary of State's office within 6 months of hire and maintain throughout employment.

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in the general real estate field; or high school graduation and seven years of experience in the general real estate field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
