Position Overview

Pharmacy Technicians at our Wilson Community Health Center are responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in various pharmacy services including patient eligibility as well as medication access, filling, and dispensing processes in accordance with applicable rules and laws set by governing bodies including the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

Essential Tasks

The general responsibility of the Pharmacy Technician I/II is to manage the pharmacy patient service area and all related patient service activities. The Technician will support the pharmacy in related dispensing activities, as needed, and act as an inquiry point for visitors of the health center, checking in pharmacy patient appointments and notifying the appropriate staff member that the patient has arrived for the appointment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accepting new or refill prescription requests from patients and distributing already prepared and dispensed prescriptions to patients or patient representatives;
  • Ensuring accurate patient registration with the pharmacy, including name, address, date of birth, medical record number, telephone numbers, medication allergies, and payment type, and inquiring about changes since the last visit;
  • Providing the new or refill prescription request to pharmacy staff for processing;
  • Answering the telephone promptly, within 4 rings, for refill requests and general pharmacy questions;
  • Serving as an inquiry point for visitors of the health center and checking in pharmacy patient appointments.
Experience and Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (preferred).
  • Previous pharmacy work experience or Community Health Center experience (preferred).
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
  • NC Driver License.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Self-directed with good organization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Team player.
Schedule

Monday 8 am – 8 pm, Tuesday 8 am – 5 pm, Wednesday 8 am – 5 pm, Thursday 8 am – 5 pm, Friday 8 am – 5 pm.

8‑hour shift, Day and afternoon shift.

Physical Requirements
  • Individuals may need to sit or stand for long periods, occasional bending, stooping, lifting including of patients, reaching toward and overhead;
  • Possibly requires walking primarily on a level surface for periods throughout the day;
  • Both proper lifting techniques and frequent computer work are required;
  • Must be able to travel freely in the local area between clinics, hospitals, health departments, etc.

Base Pay Overview

The starting pay for the Pharmacy Technician I is $15.00 hourly and $17.00 for the Pharmacy Technician II. Actual salary will vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the roles.
