Our parks and sports facilities are among the best in the nation, and our Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park is a unique and beautiful attraction that hosts concerts, farmers markets and the N.C. Whirligig Festival among other events. We are in the process of building a downtown field to host a Milwaukee Brewers’ minor league team starting in 2026.
Wilson has the strongest manufacturing base in our part of the state, including tire manufacturing, pharmaceutical and other industries. The Greenlight citywide broadband services help technology‑based companies flourish.
We are recruiting Rec Aide positions across four levels, each responsible for maintaining parks, greenways, pools, and athletic fields.
Rec Aide 1 – GroundskeeperEntry‑level position assisting in the upkeep of the grounds.
Salary: $8.00/hr

- Mowing Parks, Right of Ways, Greenways
- Athletic Field Maintenance
- Weed‑eating and edging
- Leaf and debris removal
- General park maintenance
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
- None
Experience/Education Requirements
- Willing to work outside during extreme weather conditions
- Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule with preference to those available to work shifts Monday‑Sunday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
Assists in the upkeep of grounds. Serves as key holder and contact person on weekends and supervises Rec Aide 1 during weekend shifts.
Salary: $10.00/hr

Supervisory/Management Responsibility
- Supervises Rec Aide – Groundskeeper I
Experience/Education Requirements
- Minimum of 1‑year experience in Park Maintenance or related field
- Willing to work outside during extreme weather conditions
- Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule with preference to those available to work shifts Monday‑Sunday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
Assists in the upkeep of grounds. Required to operate city truck and trailer for mowers, coordinate shelter cleanup around weekend rental schedule, perform safety site inspections of parks, and make minor bathroom repairs.
Salary: $12.00/hr

Supervisory/Management Responsibility
- Will be required to supervise Rec Aide – Groundskeepers I & II on weekend shifts.
Experience/Education Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Park Maintenance or related field
- Willing to work outside during extreme weather conditions
- Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule with preference to those available to work shifts Monday‑Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
Assists in the upkeep of grounds. Responsible for handling athletic events, significant bathroom issues, minor repairs to scoreboards, and shelters.
Salary: $15.00/hr

Supervisory/Management Responsibility
- Will be required to supervise Rec Aide – Groundskeepers I‑III on weekend shifts, communicate with Athletic Staff and respond to citizens’ complaints from dispatch.
Experience/Education Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Park Maintenance or related field
- Willing to work outside during extreme weather conditions
- Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule with preference to those available to work shifts Monday‑Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
Must be able to perform daily tasks that include sitting, standing, reaching, turning, climbing, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing and pulling frequently, gripping objects, using fine manipulation, writing, and operating machines and equipment. Strength to safely lift and carry items up to at least 50 pounds.
This is a temporary part‑time position and there are no benefits designated for such.
