Job Summary/Scope

The hiring range for this position is $49,800.37 (minimum salary) to $68,582.68 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications for a Substation Technician I.
The hiring range for this position is $57,753.17 (minimum salary) to $79,534.89 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications for a Substation Technician II.
The hiring range for this position is $70,366.61 (minimum salary) to $96,905.52 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications for a Substation Technician III.
Job ResponsibilitiesSubstation Technician I
Major Duties
- Assist in the installation, operation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of all types of equipment used in electrical substations.
- Assists in the installation, construction, and modification of all types of equipment, structure, bus, communications and control schemes, etc. used in substations.
- Assist in the testing and repair of high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators and other related equipment.
- Assists oil spill coordinator; cleans up oil spills for leaking or damage oil filled electrical equipment and maintains required EPA records
- Assists with disposing of surplus distribution equipment
- Assists coordinator for testing of department safety gear
- Responds to after-hours calls as needed
- Works during storms and/or storm response performing duties as assigned
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Substation Technician II
Major Duties

- Responds to after-hours calls as needed
- Works during storms and/or storm response performing duties as assigned
- Performs related tasks as required

Substation Technician III
Major Duties
- Assists Substation Supervisor in planning and directing the work of subordinates in the installation, inspection and maintenance of all substation equipment and protective devices. Includes associated record keeping.
- Leads the installation, operation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of all types of equipment used in electrical substations.
- Leads the installation, construction, and modification of all types of equipment, structure, bus, communications and control schemes, etc. used in substations.
- Leads the testing and repair of high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators and other related equipment.
- Trains subordinates in proper work procedures and job safety
- Responds to after-hours calls as needed
- Works during storms and/or storm response performing duties as assigned
- Performs related tasks as required.
