Job Summary/Scope

The hiring range for this position is $47,400.71 (minimum salary) to $65,277.98 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications for a Gasline Technician I.
The hiring range for this position is $57,753.17 (minimum salary) to $79,534.89 (midpoint of range) dependent upon qualifications for a Gasline Technician II.
This position performs technical work assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of the city's gas distribution system. Success in this position provides for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of natural gas.
Job ResponsibilitiesGasline Technician I
Major Duties
- Assists with the installation and maintenance of gas mains, service connections, and meters.
- Assists with locating gas mains and service lines.
- Assists with locating and repairing gas leaks.
- Assists with performing corrosion control on meters and piping.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Guidelines include city ordinances, policies, and procedures, relevant federal and state laws and regulations, and supervisory instructions.
Supervisory/Management Responsibility

Gasline Technician II
Major Duties
- Participates in the installation and maintenance of gas mains, service connections, and meters.
- Locates gas mains and service lines.
- Sets gas meters.
- Locates and repairs gas leaks.
- Performs corrosion control on meters and piping.
- Operates various types of equipment, including a backhoe, trenching equipment, dump truck and directional boring machine.
- Assists with hot tapping and stopping procedures on live gas mains.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Guidelines include city ordinances, policies, and procedures, relevant federal and state laws and regulations, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

Gasline Technician I
Education/Experience Requirements
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire.
Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of the materials and techniques used in the construction, repair and maintenance of a natural gas delivery system.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures.
