Position Summary
The Natural Sciences Department at Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) invites applications for a Chemistry Adjunct Instructor. The position is for teaching 200‑level general chemistry laboratory classes and/or 300‑level organic chemistry laboratory classes at the Portland Metro campus. Appointment will be part‑time, part of the adjunct faculty pool, with availability varying by quarter.
Responsibilities- Teach daytime and evening laboratory classes, including lectures and hands‑on laboratory sessions.
- Grade assignments, exams, and laboratory reports, and prepare course materials.
- Maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to deliver an integrated learning experience.
- Be available to teach on a variety of days and times as needed.
- M.S. in Chemistry or a related discipline, plus relevant teaching experience.
- A successful applicant must have a Master’s level degree and teaching experience; a Ph.D. is preferred.
- Experience teaching college‑level chemistry (general chemistry, organic chemistry, bioorganic or biochemistry) as the instructor of record is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the Canvas learning management system and virtual collaboration tools (Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams).
M.S. in Chemistry or a related discipline, plus relevant teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Ph.D. in chemistry or a related discipline.
- At least one year of relevant college‑level teaching experience as the instructor of record.
- Expertise in general chemistry, bioorganic and biochemistry, and/or relevant industry experience.
- Experience using Canvas and virtual meeting tools for teaching.
Classes will be principally in‑person, with some online components possible.
LocationPortland Metro campus, near I‑5 in Wilsonville, Oregon.
