General Production Worker – Paint Prep

This role supports the paint department by preparing metal parts and fabricated components for coating and finishing. You work with hand and power tools to sand, grind, mask, and handle materials, and you assist with painting finished products before they are shipped to customers. The position is open to candidates on either day or swing shift, offering flexibility for different schedules in a busy industrial manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare metal surfaces for coating by using power grinders and sanders to remove rust, scale, weld splatter, and other surface imperfections.
  • Hang parts on racks and place large items on carts or fixtures in preparation for painting, ensuring proper organization and safe handling.
  • Move painted and prepped items to drying areas and stage parts for further painting or assembly as needed.
  • Wash parts and carefully mask areas that must not be painted, following specifications and quality standards.
  • Mix polyurethane and epoxy coating materials with reducers, thinners, and hardeners to the correct ratios as directed.
  • Assist with painting finished products to meet customer requirements and ensure consistent quality of the final coating.
  • Perform general labor duties in the paint department, including cleaning work areas, equipment, and tools to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Handle materials and fabricated components, moving parts through various stages of the paint prep and finishing process.
  • Support metal finishing tasks as needed, using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Follow all safety procedures and manufacturing guidelines while working in an industrial shop environment.

Essential

Skills:

  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience, including familiarity with production processes and shop environments.
  • Experience with grinding, sanding, and other surface preparation techniques on metal parts.
  • Ability to perform paint preparation tasks such as masking, material handling, and metal finishing.
  • Capability to mix polyurethane and epoxy coating materials with reducers, thinners, and hardeners to specified ratios.
  • Comfort working in a general labor role that involves cleaning, parts prepping, and supporting the paint department.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience in production environments supporting a paint or finishing department.
  • Experience in metal finishing or fabrication is beneficial.
  • Ability to handle repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in meeting shift schedules and production needs.

Work Environment:

Day Shift runs Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., with potential flexibility for a 7:00 a.m. start to 3:45 p.m.;
Swing Shift runs Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. and includes a shift differential. Work involves regular use of hand and power tools, exposure to coatings and solvents, and typical industrial shop conditions where appropriate work attire and adherence to safety practices are expected.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
