Correctional Lieutenant – Wilsonville

Location:

Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, Wilsonville, Oregon.

Position type:
Management services work‑out‑of‑class rotation for 12 months, with possibility of extension or reduction based on business needs.

Candidate eligibility:
Available only to current Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) and Oregon Corrections Enterprises (OCE) employees with manager approval.

Salary range: $6,834 – $9,143 per month (non‑PERS qualifying applicants). PERS qualifying applicants may receive an adjusted range reflecting an additional 6.95%.

• Assign, monitor, evaluate, and assess training needs of subordinate staff.
• Participate in the screening process of new hires.
• Conduct background checks of applicants and make hiring recommendations.
• Conduct orientation for new hires.
• Resolve personnel issues and complaints.
• Respond to grievances.
• Participate in disciplinary investigations and recommend appropriate actions.
• Counsel employees on professional growth and career development.
• Review and investigate reports of security, safety, and sanitation infractions.
• Review and endorse all misconduct and unusual incident reports prepared by subordinates and ensure corrective action is taken.
• Authorize and terminate inmate visits; make independent decisions to remove inmates to special housing units or return them to parent institutions due to major infractions or protection needs.
• Supervise and inspect dining rooms, infirmaries, clinics, housing units, and segregation units.
• Authorize changes in institution routing as required by operational necessity and serve as commander in emergency situations until relieved by superiors.
• Initiate action, deploy staff, and notify designated personnel during emergencies such as inmate disturbances, escapes, or criminal activity, securing and maintaining chain of evidence.

• Three years of experience in a correctional‑security setting where primary duties were the care and custody of AICs.
• At least one year at the level of a sergeant in a correctional system.
• Ability to obtain within one year an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate or a correctional certificate from another government agency.
• Education will not be accepted as a substitute for the required experience.
