Facilities Electrical Engineer
Contract-to-Hire | Onsite
Location: Wilton, CT
The Facilities Electrical Engineer will support semiconductor-based manufacturing operations through the assessment, design, and execution of facility electrical systems projects at an onsite client location in Wilton, CT. This role works closely with site owners, stakeholders, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting projects of varying size and complexity, including system assessments, scope development, engineering design, construction support, and commissioning activities for facility electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with on-site personnel, system owners, and stakeholders to evaluate electrical system needs and analyze project scope requests.
- Develop Basis of Design (BOD), Scope of Work (SOW), engineering calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
- Design, evaluate, and support facility electrical systems including:
- Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems (up to 13.8kV)
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Interior and exterior lighting systems
- Emergency and standby power generation systems
- Life safety, fire alarm, and detection systems
- Provide engineering oversight during construction, including review of contractor submittals, RFIs, and field coordination.
- Support retrofit projects for existing building systems as well as new installations.
- Interface directly with clients, contractors, and site personnel to ensure project objectives, safety, and quality requirements are met.
- Participate in commissioning, startup, and system turnover activities as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the engineering design of building electrical systems, from distribution through end use.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable electrical and life safety codes and standards, including NFPA 70 (NEC), 70E, 72, 101, 110, applicable building and energy codes, IEEE standards, and ASHRAE standards.
- Experience preparing specifications and selecting electrical equipment and hardware.
- Working knowledge of PLC, DCS, and other industrial control systems.
- Experience reviewing vendor submittals for compliance with project and client requirements.
- Field experience working directly with subcontractors and construction personnel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple work streams.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in a facilities engineering role.
- Working knowledge of Instrumentation & Controls deliverables, including P&IDs, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and control narratives.
- Experience with control panel design, including familiarity with UL 508A requirements.
- Proficiency with electrical system modeling and analysis tools such as SKM Power Tools (PTW), ETAP, or Easy Power.
- Proficient working knowledge of design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM 360.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
