Job Summary

The Production Engineering "Principal Manufacturing Development & Industrialization Lead" is a strategic, platform-level technical leader responsible for helping to define Factory ways of working across multiple programs and product lines, incorporating input from diverse platforms and domains. This role sets platform-level standards, frameworks, and methodologies that influence long-term technology direction and ensure alignment with business objectives and compliance requirements. Acting as a key authority, the Principal Architect drives innovation in assembly and qualification strategies, while placing a strong emphasis on industrialization and structural improvements for volume products.

The role ensures that design-for-maturity and manufacturability principles are embedded early in the development cycle, enabling smooth transition from concept to high-volume production. Operating with an end-to-end perspective, the role proactively identifies risks, resolves complex technical uncertainties, and delivers creative solutions that shape organizational best practices and system-level KPIs such as availability, reliability, cycle time, and cost. In addition, this person provides technical leadership to cross-functional Module and FLS teams while helping and mentoring engineering talent.

This role is specifically focused on NPI and the introduction to the factory, in partnership with follow project leadership and Production Engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) Support
    • Drives design and factory requirements for new designs in a dedicated business line, especially in early KD's where the requirements are being defined.
    • Provide senior factory input and decision-making authority in cross-sector design reviews (ADR/PDR/CDRs) to support the PE organization.
    • Define and validate assembly and qualification architecture for new products, ensuring alignment with industrialization requirements and design-for-maturity principles.
    • Drive readiness for volume manufacturing by embedding manufacturability and serviceability considerations into early design phases.
    • Lead cross-functional reviews across multiple relevant modules to confirm industrialization deliverables, including sequences, diagnostics, and upgrade paths, are fully integrated before ramp-up.
    • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams during NPI phases, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices.
  • Industrialization & Structural Improvements for Volume Products
    • Lead industrialization strategy for high-volume products, ensuring design-for-maturity and manufacturability principles are embedded early in the development cycle.
    • Collaborate with operations and customer support teams to close feedback loops and incorporate lessons learned into design improvements.
    • Drive cross-sector collaboration to align industrialization deliverables with system-level KPIs, including availability, diagnostics, serviceability, and upgrade paths.
    • Ensure scalability and reliability of work processes to meet scaling production output.
  • Process & Quality Improvements
    • Champion design-for-quality principles throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to industrialization.
    • Establish and enforce quality standards for assembly and qualification processes across programs, ensuring compliance with organizational requirements.
    • Implement continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing systemic issues and optimizing workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce defects.
  • Analytical & Reporting Responsibilities
    • Define and monitor specifications for assembly, qualification, integration, and industrialization, including availability, reliability, cycle time, and cost metrics.
    • Perform root cause analysis on complex technical issues and structural failures, documenting findings and driving corrective actions.
    • Develop platform roadmaps and reports to communicate progress, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.
    • Leverage data analytics to validate industrialization deliverables and measure the effectiveness of process improvements over time.
  • Technical & Operational Support
    • Serve as the highest-level technical escalation point for assembly and industrialization challenges, delivering innovative solutions under tight timelines.
    • Guide cross-functional teams in resolving structural and process-related issues during development and volume production phases.
    • Mentor and coach technical leads and engineers, fostering knowledge transfer and capability building across the organization.
    • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in technical escalations related to manufacturing processes, ensuring rapid issue resolution and long-term corrective actions.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a technical domain (e.g., mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, physics); 11+ years experience in a technical production environment, required 4+ years experience in a technical leadership role, and exposure to several variations of technical…
