As the Foundation Team Leader in Wilton, you will own and operate a domain specific Enabler or engineering service area, ensuring the availability, quality, and consistency of the services provided. You maintain and continuously improve the performance and reliability of the assigned Enabler or engineering service, securing coherence in execution and effectiveness across users and applications. In this role, you determine the structure and operation of the service, prioritize required improvements and maintenance, and elevate usage gaps or conflicts when needed.
You are fully accountable for people management and for building the conditions necessary for a stable, high performing team. As the leader of the machine shop you are responsible for the equipment and safe environment of the facility, as well as the quality of parts processed in the lab.
The role focuses on mainstream or known technology and processes, operates within a single competency with limited competency responsibility, interfaces mainly at the engineer or team level within the site, and requires tactical stakeholder management with minimal involvement from external sectors or broader MDU networks.
Role and Responsibilities- In this role, you are responsible for ensuring the consistent availability, quality, and effectiveness of the machine shop team in scope while aligning service roadmaps with Delivery requirements.
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the Machine Shop, ensuring safe, reliable, and timely delivery of parts and prototypes.
- Plan, prioritize, and balance shop capacity to support engineering, R&D, and program needs across products and MDUs.
- Contributes to the strategy and business plan for the department and translates into annual operational plan for their own group.
- Contributes to the success of the department by taking ownership beyond the scope of their own group.
- Takes informed decisions of a tactical nature, by analyzing information, evaluating alternatives, and considering the potential impact on the group, organization and stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and precision manufacturing practices.
- Leads, manages, and develops machinists and technicians, including staffing, training, knowledge retention, skills growth, and performance management.
- Acts as a role model, exemplifying the company values on a day-to-day basis. Stimulates team members to add value through their competences and empower them to take ownership. Delegates responsibilities and tasks to team members in order to enhance their development.
- Own shop processes, tooling, and equipment readiness; drive preventive maintenance and capability upgrades, including machining roadmaps, tools purchases and installation..
- Collaborate closely with engineers, proto teams, and stakeholders to translate design intent into manufacturable solutions.
- Provides consult and expertise to stakeholders to best utilize the shop resources to support the business needs.
- Own and operate a Domain-Specific Enabler area for the machine shop, ensuring availability, quality and consistency of the enabler service for use.
- Align and prioritize usage of enabler services across MDUs, balancing demand, capacity, and impact in close coordination with Delivery.
- Continuously improve and develop the machine shop capabilities and professional support of the business line based on user input, aligning with domain strategy and evolving Delivery requirements.
- Incorporate input from industry, academia and CAE/CAD tool suppliers to improve domain enablers.
- May be required to act as the interface point contact for similar enabler teams in other sites.
- Manage people small team (typically 0-10, can be more).
- Mentor team members and align responsibilities and priorities related to the machine shop deliverables.
