Position

Role:
Masonry Crew Member and Leader (Full‑time).

Location:

Wilton (work at properties in lower Fairfield/New Haven/Westchester County). Salary: $20–$30 per hour, competitive hourly wages with benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Build retaining walls, pools, walkways, patios, and other structures using bricks, stone, and/or concrete blocks.
  • Cut or saw bricks for projects as necessary.
  • Mix mortar and grout to be used to lay brick and place brick or concrete blocks on a mortar bed.
  • Measure and examine brickwork to ensure structure is built correctly.
  • Consult with the project manager/foreman or client to determine the shape, consistency, finish, and other specifications of the project and plan accordingly.
  • Plan project and drying time to ensure that concrete will dry and cure correctly; monitor weather and wind throughout the process to ensure proper curing.
  • Build and use forms to shape concrete to specified levels and consistencies.
  • Use a variety of tools, such as straight‑edges, floats, rakes, shovels, trowels, and brooms, to spread, level, smooth, and finish concrete and surface.
  • Waterproof or restore surface by applying hardening and sealing compounds.
  • Level and even surface as needed by chipping, scraping, and grinding uneven spots or ridges using power or hand tools.
  • Repair and reinforce existing concrete surfaces, which may include removing ridges and cavities, resurfacing, or cleaning.
  • Clean surface, tools, and surrounding area thoroughly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of bricklaying techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Thorough understanding of math and geometry.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of the characteristics of concrete and ability to make plans based on that knowledge.
  • Ability to create, lay, and use concrete forms.
  • Deep understanding of and ability to use tools related to masonry.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to create a variety of surfaces for various purposes.
  • Reliable daily commute to and from the office.
  • Valid/active driver’s license.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical/vocational school program preferred.
  • Three years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
  • Physically able to perform labor required to lay bricks and concrete blocks.
  • Must be able to work in extremely noisy areas.
  • Excellent hand‑eye coordination.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather.
