QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree with an emphasis in educational administration preferred
  • Certified in Massachusetts as Secondary School Principal preferred
  • Minimum of five years of successful school experience preferred, three years of which should be in some form of school administration or management
  • Proven strength in curriculum, instruction, and supervision of staff
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Proven record of creating a positive school culture

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent of Schools

JOB GOAL:

Using leadership, supervisory and administrative skills shall manage the high school to promote the highest quality of educational development for each student.

SUPERVISION:

All professional and non-professional staff assigned to the high school and other resource and service personnel while functioning in the school.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the educational leader and administrator of the high school
  • Provide leadership in establishing educational goals for the schools
  • Provide leadership in implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the District to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets or exceeds the State Core Curriculum Content Standards
  • Work collaboratively to lead and mentor all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools
  • Provide leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Provide leadership in the supervision of programs designed to foster the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students.
  • Provide administrative coverage of school-sponsored events.
  • Help teachers maximize their potential and growth by providing professional development opportunities
  • Provide opportunities for teacher leadership
  • Participate in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluation of the performance of all school personnel.
  • Provide leadership in establishing programs and activities designed to foster positive relationships among students and between students and staff.
  • Provide leadership in developing a communication plan for students and staff.
  • Meet and listen to concerns of students and staff regularly
  • Encourage, guide, and assist student leaders and teacher leaders
  • Meet with parents and administrators regularly for problem resolution
  • Enforce discipline when necessary
  • Provide leadership in the establishment of a positive, inclusionary and bias-free climate for the staff members, students, parents and community.
  • Promote a school of community-staff-student relations that encourages effective communication and participation and fosters positive human relations and good morale.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all students.
  • Encourage and supervise staff participation in the development and implementation of appropriate school activities and functions.
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of all special events and activities as well as routine matters related to the Superintendent’s accountability.
  • Maintain and control various school-related funds generated by school-related activities.
  • Maintain personal and professional growth through professional memberships, attendance at workshops, seminars, and courses, and exchanging ideas in professional circles.
  • Perform such other tasks and duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee
