TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school; preferably supplemented by field work or technical training in building construction, civil engineering, or related fields to give the necessary desired knowledge. Must be certified by the KY Department of Housing, Buildings, and Construction as “Building Inspector Level I” with 3 years of experience. Must have and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license. Some business experience would be helpful
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of modern building construction practices, methods, materials, technology, and extensive knowledge of Kentucky Building Codes. Ability to analyze and present facts and recommendations in oral or written form. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and drawings and inspect construction to assure installation is in concurrence with approved plans. Ability to develop extensive knowledge of the city's zoning ordinances.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with property owners, architects, contractors, public officials, fellow employees, and the general public. Requires extensive use of independent judgment, technical knowledge and good communication skills.
