We are seeking a hands‑on, self‑driven Materials Engineer with deep expertise in recycled polymers
, particularly polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). This role focuses on optimizing the performance of blended recycled materials used for injection molding large products.
The ideal candidate will understand how the properties of incoming recycled polymers influence final product performance and will ensure blends meet cost, quality, and availability goals. This position plays a key role in supporting and accelerating the company’s growth initiatives in sustainable materials.
Core Responsibilities- Evaluate and recommend recycled materials for purchase based on performance characteristics and cost.
- Support the daily blending of recycled and virgin materials for optimal processability and end‑use performance.
- Provide guidance on material selection and blend optimization to meet product specifications and cost targets.
- Collaborate with Materials Processing teams to interpret test data and drive data‑based decisions.
- Partner with technical teams to establish process controls for materials and processing.
- Correlate polymer blend formulations with observed mechanical and physical properties.
- Identify and recommend equipment or process improvements to enhance material control.
- Work closely with the ISO/IEC 17025‑accredited polymer lab to analyze material performance.
- Maintain and enhance the Blend Sheet software used for blend management.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on recycled polymers and material performance.
- Provide off‑hours support for production‑related material issues, as needed.
- Minimum 10 years of experience working with recycled PP and PE.
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Hands‑on laboratory experience with ASTM specimen molding and testing, including FTIR, DSC, TGA, plastometer, tensile, flexural, and notched Izod testing.
- Proven background in plastic injection molding and recycled polymer processing.
- In‑depth knowledge of modern recycled material testing and processing technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to present findings clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate across teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated leadership and influence within technical teams.
