Position Summary:
The Fleet Diesel Mechanic performs safe, quality preventative maintenance and repairs on all company vehicles and equipment including diesel and gas engines, and propane and electric forklifts. Our growing fleet includes tractors, trailers, and 32,000 lb medium duty delivery vehicles. This individual will work with an experienced mechanic to continue to gain progressive ability and experience in performing maintenance and repairs and learn to recognize potential problems or mechanical failures and safety violations.
We are seeking a positive, strong team player who is a self motivated problem solver, eager to grow and develop skills, possessing a high degree of integrity. This position requires an individual to be a quick study and learn on the job.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all company vehicles and equipment in accordance to company and DOT standards
Diagnose mechanical problems and make quality safe repairs on assigned fleet and perform daily scheduled and unscheduled repairs
Perform safe and timely road calls on disabled vehicles
Maintain all repair records and documentation to DOT compliance
Maintain a neat and clean work environment and return all tools and equipment to designated areas daily
Basic computer skills and ability to navigate websites, forums, and parts sites
Identify and order necessary replacement parts
Read, diagnose, and troubleshoot electrical schematics
Monitor daily pre and post trip DOT records making repairs as needed
Report and identify vehicle and equipment damage to supervisor immediately
Follow all company policies, procedures and DOT and OSHA related compliance and laws Maintain shop cleanliness and safety standards according to Company GMP’s and OSHA standards
Maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction to support a good working relationship with all departments
Foster and maintain strong communication and relationships with all drivers and their supervisors
Perform daily work duties as assigned and fill out daily activity sheets as required
Follow-up on all unfinished work details that need to be completed
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform heavy lifting, carrying, frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, and reaching
Must be able to drive for long periods of time as needed
Ability to work indoor/ outdoor temperature/ environments, noisy conditions, and near parts cleaning solvents, petroleum based lubricants other fluids related to the job Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions
Be able to perform job duties with direction in a timely, safe manner
Adhere to all safety guidelines and comply with PPE requirements
Follow all company policies, procedures and DOT related compliance and laws
Position Requirements :3-5 years relevant work experience HS Diploma/ GED, or equivalent
Certified Diesel Mechanic preferred; equivalent experience acceptable
Valid KY Driver’s License and safe driving record required;
Class A or B CDL preferred
Must be able to meet regulatory requirements to operate vehicles and other equipment used as well as the ability to obtain a Class A- CDL (required following a period of on the on training)
Ability to work a flexible work schedule (Including weekends and holidays when required)
Ability to fulfill on-call requirements
Must have personal tools and tool boxMust be at least 21 years of age Excellent communication and listening skills
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with good and safe judgment and decision making
Attend fleet specific training courses and clinics
