POSITION: Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed as Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent by the Department of Education, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Experience in teaching and school administration, K-5 experience desired, with a minimum of 5 years.
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree with additional advanced graduate study in a specialized area and coursework in curriculum and instruction, supervision and evaluation, and school administration, including data to improve instruction.
  • Knowledge of best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment, including child development, multi-tiered systems of support, social-emotional learning, instructional technology, data analysis, and family engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
SUPERVISES
  • Performance management and professional appraisal of elementary building leaders in partnership with the Superintendent.
  • Performance management and professional appraisal of Elementary Content Coordinators.
  • Oversight and support for K-5 Social-Emotional Coaches in conjunction with elementary principals.
JOB GOALS

The Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education provides instructional leadership, supervision, and oversight for K through grade 5.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support and provide leadership to elementary principals in the development and implementation of their individual goals and professional development, including mentoring new principals.
  • Provide leadership to elementary principals in supporting best practices in instruction and assessment.
  • Support elementary principals in building-based programmatic review with a focus on student growth and development.
  • Support elementary principals in the development and implementation of School Improvement Plans.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Superintendent, elementary principals, and Content Coordinators, oversee all aspects of the elementary curriculum and program among all elementary schools to ensure equity and continuity for students and staff.
  • Evaluate staffing and hiring needs and participate in the hiring process in coordination with elementary principals and appropriate district administration.
  • Serve as the WPS Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) co-liaison with the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
  • Support elementary principals in managing personnel operations in the school district, including recruitment, employment, counseling, policy administration, and record-keeping for all licensed and non-licensed employees.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendent, and other Administrators on teacher mentoring and professional development programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve-month Administrative Position

REPORTS TO

Superintendent of Schools

Position Type: Full-Time
