Registered Nurse; RN Emergency Department; ER

Job Description

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient/family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Acts as an advocate for the patients’ physical and emotional well‑being.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• May be required to perform duties of the CNA, MA, LPN, or other nursing staff on occasion.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, in‑service, projects and committees as assigned.
• Works scheduled shifts, including overtime when necessary, and accepts all call schedule as directed.
• Maintains a neat professional appearance in compliance with the dress code.
• Complies with policies and procedures of Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas including Standards of Behavior, Dress Code Standards, and occupational exposure precautions.

Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.

• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.
• AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• TNCC preferred.

• Current and active Registered Nurse Licensure for the State of Tennessee.
