The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist II is responsible for providing site‑level EHS support to plant leadership, administrative teams, and front‑line production employees. This role leads EHS initiatives, processes, and policies under the direction of site leadership and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. Specialist II serves as a visible safety leader on the plant floor, supporting continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure EHS policies and procedures are followed by all site personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Assist with development and delivery of EHS training, including site orientation and safety awareness programs
  • Respond to incidents and coordinate investigations to identify hazards, verify corrective actions, and evaluate effectiveness of controls
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring corrective actions are completed and sustained
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and engineers to ensure compliance with EHS standards and requirements
  • Lead Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and conduct annual reviews of completed JHAs
  • Participate in Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and provide safety guidance based on technical expertise
  • Plan and manage emergency response training and drills in coordination with the Site Emergency Response Team
  • Collaborate with engineering and site leadership on equipment selection and development of safe operating procedures
  • Manage environmental permit compliance activities related to wastewater, stormwater, and chemical management
  • Select, author, and maintain content for internal EHS communications or webpages
  • Ensure EHS compliance deadlines are met for assigned facilities or departments
  • Provide technical guidance regarding health‑related issues and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE); maintain PPE inventory
  • Assist the EHS Manager with reviewing, creating, and updating EHS procedures, manuals, and documentation
  • Lead the Site Safety Committee and elevate concerns to plant leadership
  • Participate in extended EHS initiatives and cross‑site projects as assigned
  • Serve on‑call to respond to incidents or provide EHS support when required
  • Act as delegate for the EHS Manager for Tier III meetings when requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

EXPERIENCE

We are looking for leaders with either a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health, public health, natural sciences, or a related field and 3–5 years of relevant EHS experience, or a high school diploma/GED with 7 or more years of experience in an EHS‑related role. Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and root cause analysis capabilities
  • Knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in a self‑directed team manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience leading site level safety initiatives or committees
  • Experience supporting environmental permit compliance programs
  • Experience participating in emergency response teams
