Position: Auxiliary Adjunct in Music Literature (Musicology)

Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University is accepting applications for an Auxiliary Adjunct in Music Literature (Musicology). This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Position Responsibilities
  • Teach 9-12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate and graduate courses in music history with a preferred area of expertise in popular music traditions.
    • An additional teaching assignment may include a course on indigenous music traditions and graduate seminars in an area of expertise. The candidate will teach a minimum of three courses per semester.
  • Develop and update course curricula, including syllabi, lectures, and assignments.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic and career paths.
  • Engage in scholarly or creative activities, which may include research, publications, presentations, or artistic productions.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service, such as committee work, program development, and student recruitment.
Required Skills
  • Education: The applicant should hold a Ph.D. (ABD accepted) in musicology.
  • Experience: The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated record of excellence in collegiate-level teaching, with proven experience and expertise in undergraduate education.
  • Skills: Subject area within music literature may vary, but candidates should be able to work with a dynamic and diverse faculty and contribute to a performance-based and scholarly conservatory environment.
