9 Month Faculty Of Surgical Technology
Laurel Ridge is seeking an engaged, creative instructor. This is a full-time 9-month faculty position that requires primarily teaching in any of the Surgical Technology classes at Laurel Ridge Community College. The faculty member would also assist with curriculum and program development. Typical loads for full time faculty are normally 15 credit hours per semester with 10 student engagement hours required each week.
Faculty members are also required to collaborate with others (full and part-time instructors) to ensure teaching uniformity and continuity of material and expectations. Collateral duties include advising, recruiting, and service on college committees. Teaching schedules may include day and evening, weekend, on and off-campus, in person, hybrid and web delivery. Faculty members will use state-of-the-art classroom teaching technologies. While this position is primarily assigned to the Middletown Campus, faculty may be required to teach at any campus, as needed by the college.
Faculty members are required to work to help further the goals of the college and programs and support policies and procedures dictated by the Virginia Community College System. The successful candidate may also be required to work on developing or updating curriculum for new and existing programs. Candidates must have the required academic and professional background in Surgical Technology. Teaching experience is desired, preferably at the community college level.
The salary range for the position is $54,386 to $117,180, per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is a 9 month faculty role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. Certification as a Surgical Technologist, recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology Minimum of an associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field
Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a surgical technologist
Demonstrated teaching ability or related experience
Basic Life Support certification
Ability to meet the mandatory requirements of clinical facilities (ie. Appropriate training, background checks, drug testing, vaccinations, and other onboarding requirements.)
Bachelor of Science in related field
Prior higher education teaching experience
Experience with Canvas or other comparable learning management systems
Experience with simulation models and scenarios in a surgical technology program
Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery
