Survey CAD Technician
Job Description
The Survey CAD Technician will primarily engage in computer-based drafting using the latest AutoCAD software.
This role offers the potential for occasional fieldwork or courthouse research of deeds and land records, providing exposure to a wide variety of responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with professional staff to obtain project information and ensure drawings are accurate and complete.
* Prepare boundary surveys and associated metes and bounds descriptions.
* Prepare ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys and review title commitments and reports.
* Review field data to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
* Interpret control point records and data sheets.
* Perform and verify survey calculations, including volumes and areas.
* Compute line and grade to support construction layout.
* Process and reduce field data for importation into CAD software.
* Work from various drawing sources, including sketches, customer drawings, and government specifications.
* Use accepted drawing standards as guidelines.
* Prepare final survey documents, drawings, and reports according to applicable standards.
* Self-check work for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
* Research deeds and land records, and prepare deed composites for field reconnaissance and boundary determination.
* May prepare cost and quantity estimates and/or design calculations.
Essential Skills
* 2+ years of experience as a survey technician/drafter.
* Experience with topographic surveys, as-builts, and construction layouts.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or relevant software (Civil 3D is a plus).
* Ability to perform survey calculations and interpret data.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* 2-3+ years of surveying-related CAD experience.
* Ability to pass D&B and driving record checks.
Work Environment
The Winchester survey department consists of three individuals, working closely with another survey technician and reporting to a recently promoted Survey Manager. The company is an employee-owned firm with nearly 175 employees across multiple states, offering hybrid flexibility typically after the first 30-60 days, depending on work proficiency. The work involves a diverse portfolio, including land development, WRE, and Mining Engineering.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Winchester, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
