Title: Engineering Configuration Manager, Hydrogen

Company: Heven Aero Tech

Location: Winchester, VA

FLSA: Exempt

Role Summary

The Engineering Configuration Manager for Hydrogen owns the configuration management and documentation backbone of Heven Aero Tech's hydrogen generation and fueling technologies, guiding them from engineering development into scalable, repeatable manufacturing. Based at our Winchester, VA facility, this role governs product baselines, change control, and design documentation—ensuring hardware, software, baseline designs, and change histories remain consistent across engineering, production, and field operations.

Working cross-functionally with fuel cell engineering, program management, quality, supply chain, and production teams, the Configuration Manager ensures Heven's hydrogen systems transition from concept to the production floor safely, on schedule, and at the cost and quality targets required by our defense and commercial customers.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Bill of Materials (BOMs):
Structuring and maintaining multi-level engineering BOMs and manufacturing BOMs, ensuring full traceability down to individual components, raw materials, or sub-assemblies.
  • Change Control Management:
Owning the formal end-to-end change management workflow for Engineering Change Requests/Orders (ECR / ECO / ECN), from evaluating a proposed change to routing it through approval and verifying implementation.
  • PLM/PDM System Ownership:
Administering product data management and product lifecycle management software (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, Arena, Aras) to enforce revision control, access permissions, and workflow rules.
  • Cross-Discipline Alignment:
Serving as the central nexus connecting design engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality assurance to prevent "version drift" between design releases and vendor orders.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in product lifecycle management, manufacturing engineering, new product introduction (NPI), or a related technology transfer role.
  • Demonstrated experience taking hardware products from engineering prototype through production, including DFM/DFA reviews and stage-gate processes.
  • Working knowledge of BOM structures, engineering change management, and PLM/PDM tooling.
  • Experience reading and working with engineering drawings, P&IDs, and system schematics.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, supply chain, quality, and production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into clear documentation and decisions for varied audiences.
Preferred
  • Background in energy, aerospace, or defense hardware programs.
  • Familiarity with high-pressure gas systems and relevant codes and standards (NFPA 2, ASME B31.3, CGA).
  • Experience supporting hazard analyses (HAZOP, FMEA).
  • Experience scaling manufacturing at an early-stage or low-rate-initial-production.
  • Familiarity with defense procurement and export control considerations (ITAR/EAR, MTCR) as they relate to production planning.
  • Direct experience with hydrogen generation/electrolyzer technology.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer performing documentation, data entry, and configuration management tasks.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Frequent movement between office areas, engineering spaces, and the production/manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to occasionally stand and walk for extended periods while conducting reviews, inspections, or floor coordination.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds (e.g., hardware components, documentation, or equipment).
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching to inspect components, sub-assemblies, or equipment.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, system schematics, and detailed technical documentation, both on screen…
