Shenandoah University’s Office of Information Technology is accepting applications for a Junior Network Administrator. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

An entry-level networking role responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the University network infrastructure. This position will monitor network performance, manage hardware and software, and troubleshoot network-related issues. Tasks include installing switches, access points, and servers, and performing upgrades, maintenance and repairs. Will often work with the Help Desk to resolve user network-related issues and serve as a front facing contact for the networking team.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support day-to-day operations of the campus network to ensure performance, stability and reliability.
  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance and operation of IDF network closets and racks.
  • Monitor the network using available tools and respond to critical alerts/down equipment.
  • Serve as a resource to the Help Desk as it pertains to general network connectivity, LAN implementations and troubleshooting.
  • Act as a lead for the physical installation and replacement network hardware during times of failure and scheduled upgrades.
  • Maintain appropriate spare parts inventory including switches, APs, cables, SFPs, etc.
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships pertaining to all facets of network technology.
  • Assist with annual renewal of maintenance for all network related hardware and software.
  • Build and maintain network reports that track system functions, utilization and generate alerts where necessary.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams pertaining to the campus infrastructure to support future growth and projects.
  • Due to the importance of having university computer systems operational at all times, employees of the Office of Information Technology may need to be available during non-scheduled work time.
  • Additional responsibilities will be defined and assigned by supervisor.
