Registered Nurse - Emergency Room

Job Description

The registered professional nurse will utilize nursing skills to carry out the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. The nurse will communicate effectively, collaborate with a team, and demonstrate leadership and professionalism. The nurse will also direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.

• Provide patient care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental stages of human growth.
• Apply the nursing process in daily care.
• Complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies, and Professional Practice Ladder requirements, including charge nurse duties and professional education.
• Solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction and participate in peer review.
• Maintain a portfolio and submit annually.

• Competent in providing care considering developmental stages.
• Competent in applying the nursing process.
• Reliable phone communication with the hospital.
• RNAS who are first employed as RN I or promoted must secure eligibility to test letter from Virginia Board of Nursing or appropriate license.

• Required:
  
  Associate’s degree in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN).
• Preferred:
  Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
• Required license: RN License; valid in Virginia (multi‑state or single‑state).
• Required certification:
  Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
• Preferred:
  Relevant specialty certification.
