ResponsibilitiesThe registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process: including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. They are responsible for quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism. Also directs, coordinates and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned.
Competenciesand Activities
- Complete yearly mandatory competencies and any unit specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee as it relates to the patient population.
- Complete the Professional Practice Ladder requirements; assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, PI Activity and department initiatives.
- Communicates and shares information to Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committee, a Valley Health paid Education/Seminar/Conference workshop or Nursing Article.
- Portfolio is current and submitted to Director/Designee annually by March1st.
- Solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction, participate in peer review for unit and develop bulletin board or poster that provides educational information to staff/patients/family members.
- Education:
Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required;
Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred. - Experience:
1,872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if holding BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation. - Licensure:
Registered Nurse license required; licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia and/or West Virginia (multistate license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or single‑state license). - Certification: BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association (AHA) required; relevant specialty certification preferred.
- Communication:
Reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
