Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. They are responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and leadership/professionalism. They also direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards. A Registered Nurse II (RNII) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned.
A RNII must complete yearly mandatory competencies, any unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements that include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, engaging in PI activities and department initiatives, communicating and sharing information with the Director/Designee and co‑workers from unit or hospital committees, participating in Valley Health paid education seminars or conferences, and submitting an annually updated portfolio by March
1. They routinely solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction, participate in peer review for the unit, and develop bulletin board or poster educational materials for staff, patients, and families.
- Education:
Nursing diploma, ASN or ADN required; BSN preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of 1,872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if holding a BSN) of RN experience and a completed performance evaluation. - Certification & Licensure: RN license required. Must be licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia with a multi‑state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single‑state license. BLS certification (Basic Life Support) is required. AHA Certified Healthcare Provider certification is required prior to orientation.
