Job Description

As a registered professional nurse, you will utilize your nursing skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. You will provide quality communication, teamwork, and leadership/professionalism, and direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards. A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for providing care to the patient population assigned, completing yearly mandatory competencies and unit‑specific competencies, engaging in the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, serving as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activity and department initiatives, communicating with directors and co‑workers, attending education/seminars, and maintaining a current portfolio.

The RN II routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer reviews, and develops educational materials for staff, patients, and families.

Education

Associate’s Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required. Bachelor’s Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 1,872 full‑time equivalent hours (or 936 hours if holding a BSN) of RN experience, plus completion of a performance evaluation.

Certification & Licensures

RN license required. Must be licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia via the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single‑state license. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association required before completing orientation. Relevant specialty certification is preferred.

Qualifications

Meets all requirements of an RN I. Competent to provide care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development, and to use the nursing process. Requires reliable phone communication with the hospital.
