Department: NEURO SURGICAL – 206031. Worker sub-type:
Regular Work Shift. Pay Range: $34.00 – $48.87.
The registered professional nurse is responsible for effectively carrying out the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management—while ensuring quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The RN I also directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing and providing care to the population assigned.
Responsibilities- Complete yearly mandatory competencies and unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee.
- Carry out Professional Practice Ladder requirements, assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse as appropriate.
- Participate in PI activities and department initiatives, and communicate and share information with Directors, co‑workers, and committees.
- Attend and contribute to Valley Health paid education, seminars, conferences, workshops, or nursing articles, maintaining an up‑to‑date portfolio submitted annually by March1st.
- Solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction, participate in peer review, and develop educational materials such as bulletin board postings or posters.
Education Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) is required. Bachelors Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Licensure and Certifications- Active RN License in the Commonwealth of Virginia (either a multi‑state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single‑state license valid in Virginia).
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association (AHA) – required prior to orientation.
- Relevant specialty certification is preferred.
- Competent in providing care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.
- Competent to provide care to patients utilizing the nursing process.
- Has reliable phone communication with the hospital.
- Must secure an Eligibility to Test Letter or interim verification from the Virginia Board of Nursing if a Virginia resident or non‑compact state resident. (Non‑compact state residents must first secure a home state’s Compact license with multi‑state privileges.)
