Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. They are accountable for quality communication, teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. The RN PD directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.

Pay Range$34.00 - $48.87
ResponsibilitiesA Registered Nurse Per Diem is responsible for the care of the population assigned. Duties include completing yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and Professional Practice Ladder requirements such as charge nurse responsibilities, PI activity, and department initiatives. The RN PD communicates and shares information with Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees, completes Valley Health paid education, seminars, conferences, workshops, or nursing articles.
The portfolio is maintained and submitted annually by March 1. The RN PD routinely solicits patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops bulletin boards or posters providing educational information to staff and patients.
Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required. Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred.
ExperienceTwo years of RN experience required.
Certification & LicensuresRN License required. Must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either through the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider required before completion of orientation. Relevant specialty certification preferred.
QualificationsCompetent in providing care based on cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental stages. Competent to provide care using the nursing process. Must have reliable phone communication with the hospital. Requires an eligibility-to-test letter or verification for new hires or promoted RN I from any VH position. Compliance with state licensing requirements.
